The 42nd Graduation and Prize-giving Ceremony of Immaculate Heart of Mary College was held on 18th May.
Our alumnus Dr. Wong Chi Hang, Sisters of Franciscan Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Sorrows, Managers of the School and other guests of honour officiated at the ceremony. It was commenced by School Supervisor Sister Lucy Chung who shared that the whole Immaculate Heart of Mary family is a vine (John 15:1). From the roots (kindergarten) to branches (secondary school), graduation is time to see fruits borne from these branches. Love from our blessed mother is the nutrition for the vine that connects everyone in this family together. Our School Principal, Ms. Mok Kit Yue, then presented the School Report and she thanked everyone for their effort to nurture our graduates.
Upon presenting leaving certificates, Dr. Wong shared his valuable insights with our students. In order to lead a meaningful life, he advised everyone to have good time management. Time could also be spent on doing voluntary work which broadens one’s horizons. In addition, Dr. Wong emphasized the importance of regular exercise and life-long learning. Graduation is not a full stop but the beginning of another stage. He compared the school’s motto: Amor Et Labor (Love and Labour) to the foundation of building up kindness in a person. To wind up, Dr. Wong wished everyone good health and every success.
Dr. Wong was then followed by our graduate representative, Andre Chan from 6 Luke who delivered his valedictory speech. He was full of gratitude to the School for his holistic schooling. He also thanked Sisters from IHMK to IHMC for supporting him in his journey of studies. He was about to graduate, but the seed of love would remain in his heart. The finale of the graduation ceremony was singing the school song in unity. Everyone stood and sang together for the last time. The ceremony ended beautifully with our school song dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
